Gilly and Scott met at Carnegie Mellon, but Scott likes to think their souls were destined for one another from ‘the beginning’ and Gilly thinks that some people just fit well together (even with an 11-inch height difference).

Meeting

It all started in the hallways of Maggie Mo…

Margaret Morrison that is; CMU’s design school building. Gilly was studying in the undergraduate design program when she met Scott in her junior year. Scott was in his first year of the masters program for Design. They are forever grateful to Graeme Crawford for introducing them :)

Scott and Gilly got to know each other first as friends. They spent many hours in the grad design studio together while Gilly was TA’ing another class, sometimes spending lunch together, and occasionally taking basketball breaks in the Wiegand Gymnasium.

Early Years

They each spent many hours going between Pittsburgh, Silver Spring, Temecula, and New York

With Gilly graduating in 2018 and Scott in 2019, they took turns driving the 4 hours from Pittsburgh to Maryland and vice versa. Sometimes Scott would depart Pittsburgh after classes on Friday, arrive late in the evening, and depart at 4 AM on Monday to make it back in time for morning studio.

While the commuting was unideal, it ultimately strengthened their relationship. After graduating, Scott briefly moved back to California before getting a job in New York and returning east in January 2020 (much to Gilly’s delight).

During COVID, Scott spent several months at Gilly’s parents house in Silver Spring, MD where they shared meals, played Rummikub, and went running in Sligo.

Moving In

After 3+ years of long distance, Gilly and Scott get their first place together in Brooklyn

Ready for the next chapter and working entirely remotely, Gilly moves to New York! They got their first place in Park Slope, Brooklyn - one block away from Prospect Park.

They spent an embarrassing number of hours scouring estate sale and auction websites looking for furnishings that would make their apartment feel cozy on a budget ($1000+ rugs for $100 kind of discounts). Car-less, they rented Zipcars to travel into uncharted (to them) territories of Long Island and the Hudson Valley.

They were lucky to have several friends located nearby (some just a couple blocks away) that made the transition a little easier.

Traveling and Staying Put

From Croatia to California, they’ve had a breadth of experiences together

Their first trip took them to the Finger Lakes where they biked, hiked, and ate a lot of ice cream. Their first international trip took them to Mexico where they explored Mexico City and Oaxaca, learned how to make mole, and went horseback riding on the beach at sunset.

They spent several weeks in California this year dealing with loss and estate management, but also strengthening connections to the family they both have out west.

When they are not traveling they enjoy curling up on the couch binging favorite TV shows (or watching the boys, aka Man U, early on the weekends), going out for Indian food, and seeing dance performances in town. Gilly has improved her gluten free baking tremendously and Scott has added several new dishes to his dinner repertoire (sushi bowls being a favorite among them).

Marriage!

Gilly and Scott got married in November and are excited to party with their friends and family!

They had their ceremony at Tudor Place in Georgetown, DC where Gilly’s parents, and Gilly and Scott’s siblings joined them. Kim, a close family friend, officiated the ceremony.

Now, they are looking forward to celebrating their marriage with all of you!
